Unfortunately, this problem isn’t going away any time soon as, by 2050, the amount of waste produced globally is expected to rise to a staggering 3.4 billion tons. One of the best ways to mitigate the environmental impact of municipal solid waste is to introduce smarter, more tech-focused solutions to the waste management industry. These innovative processes help to streamline collections, monitor waste levels and make it easier for individuals and businesses to up their rates of recycling and help the environment.

Monos foods JSC

Monos Foods JSC, the one of the biggest producers of health-promoting products, is highly paying attention to the waste management of the operation and initiated several initiatives to reduce waste from product packaging.
  • Enhjin Health Tea has been released in 2022 with a new package that reduces the use of plastic bags by 90% and paper by 42%. In this way, it was possible to reduce 8 tons of plastic bags and paper waste per a year. In addition, technical equipment was installed and trial work was started by reducing the amount of plastic used in purified water bottles by 21%.
  • Ecos, a brand dedicated to the balance of life, has reduced its packaging by 30 percent. 124,000 tons of plastic waste dumped in Ulaanbaatar, only 9% is recycled. As a result of 3 years of work to reduce the use of plastic used in production, Ecos soft water was initially produced in eco-friendly packaging, and after reducing the plastic production by 30%, covered it from the outside, Monos foods JSC are introducing the 29/25 or lower, less plastic standard for the first time in Mongolia. The fact that humans have limited needs and limited resources can lead to higher levels of conscious consumption.

CU Mongolia- Premium Nexus JSC

  • In order to reduce the printing of payment receipts, CU arranged to receive e-documents or register e-documents  to the costumers through the CU application.
  • Eco-friendly coffee cups. The coffee cups and lids are made by 95% biodegradable materials, which has prevented 372,000 tons of plastic pollution since the company established.
  • Cu distribution center has a good track record of reusing cardboard boxes instead of waste. A semi-automatic order preparation system has also been introduced. In this way, it is possible to reduce the paper consumption by 2 times to an average of 3 thousand pieces per day or 1.8 kg, and to reduce the consumption of writing paper by 630 kg per year.

MCS Coca Cola's Circular Economy Initiative

MCS Coca Cola is committed to fostering a circular economy in Mongolia, addressing the annual consumption of 20,000 tons of plastic bottles in Mongolia. The company has established the TML plant with capacity to recycle 75 tons of plastic daily, amounting to 27,000 tons annually. This facility enables the recycling and reuse of plastic bottles multiple times. Additionally, TML Plastic Factory utilizes advanced European technology to recycle liquid food containers, producing eco-friendly raw materials that comply with international standards. TML Group collaborates with approximately 4,000 organizations, having signed agreements with around 1,400. They collect plastic bottles from individuals and businesses across all provinces, reprocessing them into products that meet food safety standards. The recycled granules (rPET) produced by TML adhere to the highest health and safety standards, certified by the US FDA and various international quality certifications.
